Captions by Dick Sutphen: The first photos relate to my “Psychic Experiences” Web column, April 30, 2004. From April 4 through 11, we took a cruise on Royal Caribbean’s “Radiance of the Seas” to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Tara and I were joined by our children Hunter (17), Cheyenne (15) and William (27). Cheyenne’s friend Marissa Bates and William’s girlfriend Kim Bedigo, plus our best Malibu friends, Richard Christian Matheson and Diana Mullen were also with us. Shauna Hoffman, a friend and therapist I have often written about in my column, was producing and acting in one of her “Whodunit” onboard mysteries during the first four days of the cruise. Shauna and members of her acting troupe often joined us for onboard activities and shore excursions. When the Radiance docked at a port, you had the choice of ship sponsored trips or you could explore on your own. Tara and I preferred to hire private drivers by the day.

Cheyenne with a local boy and his snake. This was taken on our way to the Altun-Ha archeological site in Belize, Central America.

Tara and me at the entrance to Altun-Ha. This Mayan civilization flourished between 200 and 900 A.D., and all the pyramid structures were once smoothly plastered in white.

Behind me is the main temple and you have no idea how steep those stairs are until you climb them.

The driver we hired took this picture of our group in front of the main temple, Left to right: Hunter, Diana, RC, Marissa, Cheyenne, me, and Tara.

On top of the main temple. Tara, me, Diana, and RC.

Tara and me in the rain forest near the main temple. Tara claimed the Guardian had performed a ceremony and touched us on the back. If you look closely, it appears as if we’re glowing. Pictures of Diana and RC, shortly after we descended the stairs, show the same phenomena. These were the only pictures in which we glowed.

Breakfast on board, with Cheyenne on Dad’s shoulder trying to wake up. This was our favorite place onboard -- outdoors, off the Windjammer Cafe at the back of the ship. When nothing else was going on, Richard Christian and I spent hours here sipping coffee and talking. He is a highly successful screenwriter and author, so we never run out of things to talk about.

Breakfast on another day with Kim and William. Tara is taking the picture.

Tara, William and Kimberly near the front of the ship where the wind was strong enough to blow you away. Will and Kim live in New York City and flew down to join us (at Mom’s insistence).

On a Roatan beach. After the beach, we had our driver take us and the young girls to the West End of the island -- a hippie snorkeling community where we purchased gifts and souvenirs. On this day, Hunter, William and Kim swam with sharks at a different location, while Richard and Diana took a tour of the island, including an iguana farm.
